Media Information

Pick of the Net "Sofcom are delighted to inform you that your web site The Australian & New Zealand Missing Persons Register has been chosen as one of the very best sites in Australia, and we would like to award you with a Sofcom 'Pick of the Net' award."

The Missing Persons Register has highlighted in:

  • September 2002 Issue of NETGUIDE (page 22)
  • August 26th Issue of WOMAN'S DAY (page 86)
  • The Sunday Mail (Qld)
  • The Courier Mail
  • The Sunshine Coast Daily
  • The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) (July 30th 2002)
  • The West Australian
  • Australia's Internet Directory (twice)
  • The Sydney Morning Herald
  • Australian Womens Day (May issue, Page 25)

The first thing I want to tell you is that site is not just for 'Missing People'.

No we don't do pets, cars or other stuff, (although if you check the news theres an item about a kidnapped parrot with a $7,000 reward for Hector's return and Dean-the-Green turtle who has gone missing - theres a $500 reward for him) it is mainly for people, but people who have not been seen for some time, but may not be necessarily 'missing' in the political sense.

This site is a resource to help people get in touch with people they may have lost contact with, a friend, a neighbour, a relative, an old classmate. Consider it like a self-help workshop and library.

People have different needs. Some may want to find the history of their family name (Genealogy) or may be interested in finding international missing persons organisations.

People may want information pertaining to legal matters, adopted children or adoptive parents, or contact with support services.

People may need information that is in another country and don't have the time or tools to scour the web. That info is right here and the resources are completely updated every twelve weeks, and the news posted weekly. Any 'emergency missing' items are posted immediately .

You may want to refer someone you know on to important resources in Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK or Canada (or elsewhere) such as The Salvation Army, The Red Cross and others.

On top of all that there are details of Missing and abducted children,
Wanted criminals in Australia, Unsolved crimes and even some solved ones in What happened to?

There's also a wicked Search Tools section. If what is sought is ON the web... you will find a tool here likely to find it. Some search tools are much better than others.

We have our own ads database and you can add or delete your own entries. It's fast and very efficient. Just follow the instructions or jump to the section on Answering, Viewing and Placing Missing persons ads on Page Six of the Site Tour or the link on Ads on the site map for a more detailed break-down.

All of this is explained in greater detail in the Following Site Tour, or jump to the Site Map. If you choose to skip the tour, we still require you to thoroughly read the Conditions of using this site.

Thank you for publicizing our website. We are appreciative. Please contact us for any additional information that may not be covered here. What you need to know.

Who is behind the site?
Melissa BEE and Chris HEART
The page About Us will give you more detail about us and the history.

How do you contact us?
The page Contact Us, gives all those details.

What is the history of this site?
The page About Us will give you more detail about us and the history. In a nutshell the site will be five years old on August 10th.

How many people are lost and missing each year?
Police reports estimate 30,000 people go missing in Australia each year. I have never seen any statistics to support this claim. Most states have on average 300-5,000 'missing' each year, the majority found in a relatively short space of time. People being 'sought' are not always "MISSING PEOPLE" by the Police definition.

People being sought in Australia & New Zealand fluctuates.
There are 6-12,000 registrations on this site per year - accross the whole range.

During holiday periods this site is busier than other time. The Christmas Period from November-February is the busiest of the year, for people seeking others not just in Australia and New Zealand, but globally.

How many people are found?
As far as we know, over 200 people have been located through this website in five years.

How much traffic do you have?
Again that varies, according to time of year and publicity.

What do members have to pay?
It is a site FREE for personal advertisers and people-seeking-people.
This site is provided as a Free Community Service by The Personals Network. TPN has to pay all the advertising, hosting and maintenance charges for this site. This site is actively seeking additional sponsors and advertisers to keep this service free.

What do people have to do to get help to find my relatives?
If they want us to conduct a basic online search all they have to do is askus (preferably by email) so I have a record and someone to contact. Messages on ICQ with no return address are impossible to answer, so I don't know why people message me, when they make it impossible for me to respond.

We also have links to People finding services such as PEOPLE SEARCH AUSTRALIA and former Policemen and Private Detectives who can do more detailed searching. If you want us to do this detailed searching for you we charge $200/day, payable in advance. Contact us for more details.

What does it cost to advertise on this site?
Detective and people searching services can purchase a text or banner link, or reciprocate with a banner link on their front (main) high traffic web-page. Just email us for details.

What other services are available?
Check the Site Map for more.
